Nut and Seed Home-Made Muesli Bars | Healthy Snack

Muesli bars are the perfect snack when you need a quick boost of energy. There are so many different kinds of muesli bars in the grocery store and the internet is flooded with recipes. I thought I would try and make my own muesli bar recipe and that is what I have for you today.

When buying muesli bars in the grocery store check out the amount of sugar and saturated fat per 100g column on the nutrition panels and compare different brands to help you to choose the healthiest bar. Muesli bars that have dried fruit or a yoghurt coating will have a higher amount of sugar. Nuts and seeds have healthy fats in them so the fat content will be naturally higher in unsaturated fats (the good kind).

This recipe is really versatile. In the past I have included things like chocolate bits and dried fruit, simply just swap it for another ingredient. You can make it as healthy or unhealthy as you like.

Nutrition information: Energy 709kj (170 cal) | Protein 6g | Fat 8g | Sat fat 1.2g | Carbs 15g | Sugar 7.6g |Sodium 22mg

Ingredients
3 cup rolled oats
1 cup almonds
1 cup cashews
3/4 cup seed mix (sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and pine nuts)
1 tin of reduced sugar sweetened condensed milk

1. Preheat the oven to 180°C and line a 20cm x 30cm slice tin with baking paper.

2. Add all the ingredients into a bowl and mix well.
3. Press the mixture firmly into the tin to create an even layer.
4. Put the muesli bars into the oven and bake for 15 minutes or until golden on top.
5. Allow the muesli bars to cool completely before slicing into 24 pieces.
6. Enjoy!

The muesli bars keep best in the fridge. I like to wrap them individually so that they are portion controlled (it is easier to keep track of how many you have had) and it also makes it a quick snack when you are running out the door.

If you make your own version of these muesli bars send me a picture or let me know your flavour combination!

Have a lovely weekend,
Bridge
